August - the annual cupcake bonanza, and other stories
Cakes to date: 288
Well, the summer holidays are over again for another year, and it's full steam ahead to Christmas (sorry, we've just taken a birthday cake request for December and now it feels very close indeed!). August is usually a quiet month for birthday cake requests (perhaps some of the children's services shut down for the holidays?) but that hasn't stopped our bakers mixing up some wonderful creations, because August is also the month for... summer activity days!
We've provided some stunning and strumptious traybakes to accompany Bromley Foodbank's summer lunch clubs, which take place once a week over August with refreshments and activites for the little ones. From fruity fillings to sugary sprinkles, our bakers covered it all, providing a sweet slice of something for up to 80 attendees each session. Thank you so much to Ana, Sonia, Lynne, Lizzie, Angela, Claire, Anna and Sarah!
We've also been helping the Bromley children's centres with some goodies to accompany their summer sports days. These half-day sessions ran across the six centres, each needing 20-30 cupcakes to fuel those budding Olympians. Thank you to bakers Angela, Sue, Lucy, Sam, Elisabeth, Frances, Alicia, Hannah, Joanne, Emma, Sarah and Daisy for making..... 460 CUPCAKES in all!
Of course we've continued providing birthday cakes to children across Bromley too, with six referrals this month; cars, makeup, football, Teletubbies, a prince and a princess! Huge thanks to bakers Claire, Kim, Angela, Anna, Kim and Lucy for jumping on these often last-minute requests!
And finally... a wonderful piece of collaboration and interesting plans for the future. Through her work baker Daisy met a Bexley-based Mum in need of our help. Baker Sarah was happy to cover the area, and quickly whipped up a wonderful chocolate cake for a little girl, our seventh of the month. It's lovely that our bakers go above and beyond to help those in need of cake, it's a pleasure to have such a caring team of volunteers! And also means that we can potentially cover Bexley as well as Bromley. So, if you live in the area and want to join the team, or know of a charity who may need our help, please do get in touch!
